Batik Crafting....

The Batik process is extensive...

We begin with our superior quality,
100% Cotton Voile (100 / 120).

The sheer cotton fabric is cut to size, then washed and dried.

The fabric is then stamped or painted with reusable, heated wax. This wax prevents the dye from entering the part of the fabric that has been waxed.

Once the entire piece of fabric has been waxed with the appropriate pattern, it is mounted on a loom and painted with dye.

The dye is allowed to dry for two days.

The painted cloth is then washed to remove the wax, and washed again, to permanantly fix the dye, in a "gel bath".

For non-pattern cloth, no wax is applied before dying.

For multiple color batiks, this process is repeated for each color.

When finished, the fabric will be crafted into shirts, sarongs, scarves and napkins.

Because of these repeated washings, shrinkage does not occur in our products.

Hand Painting....

After a shirt is sewn from white or dyed sheer cotton cloth, our Hand-Paint Staff
will draw the pattern onto the shirt
using fine pencil.

The pattern is then hand-painted, using permanent, washable dye.

Each shirt requires approximately
two days to paint.
